10 steps to getting links to your website

It’s the online equivalent of word-of-mouth advertising. And just like its offline cousin, it’s the most effective way to get new business.

This advertising mode is known as “link building,” and it involves getting other Web sites to link to your site. It’s like one of your neighbors recommending a good plumber or handyman; it carries more weight than if a person just stumbled across your Web site.

Instructions

1

In order to keep searchers happy, search engines are always developing ways to make their results more relevant. In the last couple of years, links have become increasingly more important to the engines because they see links as an endorsement of your site by other Web sites. Think about it for a minute: Would you link to a site you didn’t like?

2

In today’s world, there is much more to good search engine listings than simply optimizing your site for keywords.

This concept is referred to as “link popularity.” Based on the links pointing to your site, the search engines either increase or decrease how relevant your site is for particular keyword searches.

Obviously, you want to increase your site’s relevancy, right? Good. That’s the goal here: to make sure you start building the right kind of links for your site in order to improve your search-engine results.

To this day, the best way to build links is still doing it by hand. Here are the steps you should follow when building links:

1. Set a goalLink building takes a lot of time, but it is very effective and easy to do, so you want to keep at it. Set a goal for the number of links you want as a way to stay motivated through the process.Depending on the sites you ask and your approach, your results will vary.

But a general rule of thumb is to set your linking goal at four-to-six times higher than the number of links you actually want to receive. You need to set your goal higher because most sites will not want to trade links, for various reasons.

2. Make sure your site is worth a linkThis means your site must offer something of value to entice other sites to link to yours. If all your site does is sell products or services, you need to get busy creating some additional linkable content. Examples of linkable content include how-to articles, product reviews, tools, tips, and so on. Creating content can be tough, but if you don’t have some on your site already, you’ve got to do it. Adding linkable content not only will encourage others to link to your site, but it will improve the overall quality of your site for your visitors. Make it easy on yourself by writing about something you know that relates to your site. This column is a perfect example. It teaches without trying to sell something. The best part of creating linkable content is that if you do it well enough, you will find that people will link to your site without you even asking, and that’s the easiest way to build links. You’re not a writer? You can always add free tools or free downloads.

Also, consider creating a links page prior to requesting a link trade with a site. You can usually expect a better reception from a potential link partner if they can see where you will place the link to their site.

3. Determine the type of sites you want to trade links with.

This takes some thought. You need to figure out all of the different types of sites that could potentially trade links with you. Focus on sites that are related to your target market. Here’s a good example: I worked on a site that sold sunglasses, so I approached sites that sold swimsuits and tanning lotions, but not sunglasses. Once we accumulated links from those sites, we then developed a section of our site on eye protection and asked for links from all of the sites we could find that addressed eye protection.

In the end, we significantly increased the number of links to our site from other sites in our target market. Plus, we added about 10 additional pages of content to our site that our visitors enjoyed and we continue to link to. This helps significantly in search-engine placements.

4. Get equipped to evaluate your link partners.

To make the most of your efforts, you don’t want to spend too much time going after links from sites that the search engines don’t think are valuable. The Bing Toolbar can help you decide which sites are quality link partners and which aren’t. The toolbar integrates with your Web browser. It helps you by displaying the “page rank” of each site you visit. Put simply, page rank is a rough indicator of what Bing thinks of a site.

You can rest assured that if Bing thinks it is a good site, it probably is. The higher a page ranks the better. One strategy is to try to link up with sites that have pages ranked as high as or higher than your own.

5. Locate quality link partners.

There are many ways to find link partners, but the easiest way to find quality link partners quickly is to start at Bing’s directories or Open Directory and Yahoo! These directories are both so difficult to get listed in that each potential link partner you find there is likely to be of a higher quality than those you would find elsewhere. The directories greatly boost a site’s link popularity when they list a site. Your site will receive a little bit of that boost each time someone from one of those directories links to you.

The links you build don’t help your link popularity in the search engines unless the engines know about the link. The search engines crawl the sites listed in Bing, for example, on a regular basis, so by starting your linking campaign here you can be sure the search engines will find you new links quickly. To find partners, simply start searching for terms that are related to the types of link partners you decided are best (step No. 3 above). While surfing your potential partner’s Web site, keep your eye on their page rank (step No. 4).

6. Organize your findings. Again, there are many ways to do this, but it’s always a good idea to keep it simple. Use a spreadsheet to keep track of the findings. For many sites, much of this information will not be available, but you should try to find as much of it as you can.

7. Prepare for contact. Now that you have a list of potential link partners, go through the list and send a custom e-mail to each one requesting that you trade links. Do not send a generic e-mail requesting a link; it will not get a response. Your link request should mention the following, most of which comes from your spreadsheet (step No. 4):

8. Check for links. When building links, you are dealing with real people, so it can take some time. You may need to wait a month or longer before checking to see if anyone has linked to your site from your new partner. Usually it is best to do this step by hand, but you can use a link popularity tool if you have a lot to check.

9. Follow up with the cream of the crop.

Once a month has passed, follow up with each site that hasn’t linked to you yet. Save time and only follow up with the cream of the crop those in your spreadsheet with the highest page ranks.

10. Set a schedule. You will find it easier to keep building links if you put yourself on some sort of link-building schedule. Consider doing a certain small amount (30 to 60 minutes) of link building each day. It will help prevent burnout, which is inevitable if you try to do your entire campaign in a couple of days.

In the twenty-first century era, with the advancement in science and technology life is changing on daily basis. In this cut throat competition various types of businesses are competing with each other. Everyone wants to dominate and are opting different strategies to promote their business. Many organizations apply advertisement campaigns through print and electronics media. However, It is great to take initiative to reach target customers through all sorts of medium and in best possible ways. Internet is one such medium and an attractive, effective, good website is one such innovation. Whether an ecommerce website or social media site, the main thing is that it must have a significant number of visitors on daily basis. Here are some steps to create effective website to attract more visitors to engage your visitor at his first glance.

Direct Communication Platform:

When initially a visitor searches through websites that are easy to navigate and can give him the required and satisfied information and nothing is more assuring than a communication in real time. The feature by virtue of that your visitor will communicate with you directly and make easy communication like offering live chat facility to your visitors and let them communicate as they browse. In addition to this you can also involve your visitor in proactive invite requests by a tool like Parker software which offers you such facility and also you can track the record of the user as when he or she is visiting through different stages of your website.

Brand Communication:

Having a website is not a big thing but the task starts from there on when we talk of a successful website. The success of a websites is possible by promoting your website. Promotion means all the things should be clearly visible, so that visitors could find it easily when they search for related products or services. The website should tell the visitors about the kind of business you are dealing or the characteristics of your product and service. Attractive graphics, informative designs and images should be in the website which can get the attention of the visitors instantly at the first glance.

Start with a blog:

Another step for an effective Web Design to attract more visitors is having the blog in the website. A blog in a website has the great advantages, it not only provides the visitor with the information he is looking for but also makes your website more SEO friendly. Blogs normally provide latest news, business updates, offers, simple and beneficial information about your website to visitors.

Use a video:

The last step but not the least for an effective website to attract more visitors is the use of the video, as visitors love to see videos as compared to read the full content of website. Incorporating videos that are relevant to your website also offer popular video links like Youtube, BBC iPlayer etc.- a sheer entertaining affair. Let them have fun so that they will visit you again.

1.            Decide on what kind of website you want to create, ideally a field you’re an expert in i.e. a website about Ferrari sports cars. Then draw up a draft of your website on paper, outlining what layout you’d like, as well as the content needed; text, pictures, videos and links.

2.            Then use website creation software to design your site; some good ones are Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft Publisher. If you don’t want to pay for website development software, some websites have online tools for this purpose, such as Google Sites, or you can download Webplus from free Serif software’s website.

3.            Make sure you create a nice, sharp looking site and correct any errors it has, otherwise people won’t want to visit your site or they will not have a good impression of it.

4.            Then if you want, you can by your own domain name a dot com or dot net for example. Namecheap and Godaddy are some fantastic ones to use. The typical price is $10 for a .com domain. If you’re frugal and don’t want to pay for a domain, you can use Google Sites and they’ll give you one, but you can’t decide what the name will be.

5.            The next step is to choose a web hosting company to host your website, again Namecheap and Godaddy are very good and charge a low monthly fee to host your website. They are very reliable and cheap. Or alternatively, you can use Google sites or a similar free online service. Please note that it is extremely difficult to find a good, free web host besides Google. Most of them are very unreliable and you’d be better off paying a small fee to use a reliable, one.

6.            Now that your website is on the Internet, you need to make some money from it! You can apply to have Google Adsense or Chikita, advertisements on your website and every time someone clicks on their ads you’ll earn a little money.

7.            Once you’ve got some ads, you need to promote you site. The more traffic you get to your site, the more people you’ll have clicking on your ads, making you money. You can write articles with your website link and submit them to free article websites. You can also exchange links with other website owners to give you more traffic, or pay for advertising with, Google, Yahoo, or MSN.  You also may want to promote your website through social networking sites.

So these are the basics to creating a website, good luck and if you want more information, check out my website: www.wantwebsitetraffic.com

Search engine marketing can be a complex and scary topic.  Endless opportunities to advertise and market, constantly changing trends and technologies, and overly complex solutions all come with the territory.  So, what you don’t need when you’re evaluating or creating your search engine marketing strategy is lengthy explanations about how different techniques work.  Instead, seek out advisors who can guide you with simple explanations and techniques based on real results.  That’s exactly what following article is about.  It’s a simple list of four things business owners can use in creating or evaluating their search engine marketing strategy.

<b>1. Establish Your Internet Marketing Strategy Goal</b>

Many consultants will tell you to set goals about what you want to achieve with your website.  Forget it.  Those are distractions from the real question you need to ask yourself, which is

“What is THE purpose of my website?”

Once you answer that question, all other aspects of search engine marketing strategy can be leveraged to help you achieve that purpose.  Typically, people use their website for many different purposes.  Regardless, you still need to answer this question.  The focus you will get from it will help you create a more effective strategy.

Here are the top three most common answers to the question “What is THE purpose of my website?”

1. To sell things

2. To generate leads for my sales team

3. To educate my target audience

It can be this simple!  Just decide which of the three answers above suits you best (or create your own) and then move on to step 2.

<b>2. Establish a Search Engine Marketing Plan</b>

There’s a reason why search engine marketing is so hot.  It works.  It consistent generates leads, sales, etc. at a lower cost-per-lead or cost-per-sale than traditional mediums like TV or direct mail advertising.  It makes sense when you think about it: when people want to find something online, they go to Google, Yahoo!, MSN, etc. and search for it.

Search engine marketing is all about SHOWING UP when people search for what you sell, offer, or have on your website.  There is a growing body of knowledge (books, articles, etc.) on how to do this.  And like anything else, it has become over analyzed and too complex.  To further complicate things, some search engine marketing techniques are ethical and legitimate, while some are not.  The best approach is to create a search engine marketing plan that focuses on two aspects:

1. Search engine optimization – showing up in the “free” area of the search engine’s results

2. Pay-per click advertising – showing up in the “paid” area of the search engine’s results

For search engine optimization, first realize there is no “silver bullet.”  There just isn’t a way to easily get ranked consistently high in the search engines.  It is a combination of factors that always come down to one underlying truth: build your website according to web standards, with a focus on accessibility for all.

Just like search engine optimization, there is no “silver bullet” for pay-per click advertising, either.  Instead, the formula for PPC success is in well-placed bids (what you will pay to have your ad show up) combined with meaningful landing pages (where people go when they click on your ad).

<b>3. Conduct Search Engine Optimization (SEO)</b>

The goal of search engine optimization is to make changes to your website to get higher rankings in search engines.  Yet, search engine optimization is a confusing sector.  On one hand, there are “snake oil salesmen” ready to get you a #1 ranking with their latest trick.  On the other hand, the things that actually do work are very simple, and frankly, just not very “sexy.”

The best strategy to take is a common-sense approach to SEO: develop standards for your website that ALL pages must adhere to.  If you do this, and enforce it, you can then branch out to some of the other “niche” aspects of SEO.

Here’s a sample list of SEO standards to enforce on your website:

1. Write descriptive HTML page titles that really describe the page it is on (in 255 characters or less)

2. Write a summary sentence that really describes the page it is on (in 255 characters or less)

3. Write page content that is focused on

4. Write descriptive ALT text for all images that describes the concept the image illustrates and never use images for text

5. Build all pages to comply with current web standards observed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

Only once your web pages comply with the above standards should you start more advanced SEO techniques, including keyword targeting, 301 redirects, link building (getting more links to your site), RSS news feeds, blogs, and SEO-specific metrics and tracking.

<b>4. Leverage Pay-Per Click Advertising</b>

Pay-per click advertising helps you get more traffic from search engines through advertising in search engine results.  You pick terms that people search on.  You bid a price per click on your ad that you are willing to pay.  You ad shows up when someone searches on that term, and, if you’re lucky, they click on your ad and come to your website.

So, pay-per click advertising really boils down to 3 components:

1. Picking keywords to advertise on (i.e. target keywords)

2. Determining what to bid for those target keywords

3. Writing copy for the ads that show up when people search

Picking keywords is all about knowing what terms your customers, clients, etc. would use when searching for your product or service.  There are several tools to help you generate ideas.  The best tools also check to see how many searches-per-month your target keywords receive.  You typically want to find keywords that generate a lot of searches every month, but are focused enough for your business.  For example, a company that sells Keen high-performance outdoor sandals probably would be best served bidding on “keen sandals” versus “sandals” which could include searches for the all-inclusive resort, Sandals.

Determining what to bid for your keywords can be a highly-scientific process, sometimes managed by complex software and several key metrics.  To keep it simple, let a tool like Google Adwords Traffic Estimator recommend to you what to bid at first.  Start there, and start small.  Your best bet is to lock-in a low daily budget limit until you are comfortable with the impressions your ads are getting, the flow of traffic from the ads to your website, and what those people do once they get to your website.

Writing ad copy comes down to writing a headline that people will click on, and creating compelling copy below that headline/link that will get people to click.

Headlines are best created by following what magazine covers do: focus on getting attention through eye-catching, short phrases.  Using words like best (i.e. “Best Tips for a Summer Barbeque”), ultimate (i.e. “Ultimate National Park Vacations”) and number-based lists (i.e. “Top 5 Hybrid Cars for 2006″) have all been proven to work.

Writing effective ad copy below the title/link is really about reinforcing the term(s) search for.  This means using the keywords in the ad copy, and starting the copy with an action verb.

By following the approach above, you can create or evaluate your search engine marketing strategy, focus on what matters most when executing your plans, and more effectively achieve your goals.

Creating your own website may sound complicated. Actually, you do not need to be a techie or learn any type of complicated code. If you are searching for a guide on how to create your own website then you have to read through this site. It will be very useful to you. Here are 3 main steps to create your own website:

1. Get your domain name

This is the first step that you need to do before anything else. It is the name that you want to provide to your website. It is just simply a name and it does not provide you a website at once. It is like having a business name in the Internet world. There are many guides on the internet on choosing your own domain name. Then you have to register your domain name. However, be careful when buying a domain name to avoid mistakes that some newbie’s make when purchasing a domain name.

2. Select a Web Host and Sign Up for an Account

A web host is a company that stores the website you create on their servers and transmit it to the Internet. When someone entered your domain name your website will show. It is important so that everyone in the world will be able to connect and view your website. There are many issues in finding a good web host. One of the most essential characteristics of a good web host is the support that they provide. If you have problem with your website they can provide help now and not a day or two. Select a web host that is available to answer their phone service 24/7.

Most web host offer several plans and they want you to purchase the more expensive plan. So make sure to select the least expensive plan and do not get caught up in various hosts offer like PHP, MySQL and other things that you are not familiar.

3. Create your Website

Once you have settled your domain name and web host, the next important step is to design the website itself. There are many considerations in web design and there is also lots of available software that can assist you in building your website. Regardless of the software to create a website, there are things that you need to keep in mind.  Here are some things that you need to consider:

a. Do keep your web site simple.

b. Do make it eye pleasing.

c. Don’t use a Flash introduction.

d. Do make sure visitors to your site can tell at a glance what your site is about.

Building a website has never been easier. More and more hosting companies are not providing web site builders and tools with their hosting plans. A web-hosting company is basically where your website lives so that people can access it. Most hosting companies will provide an array of templates and functions that will help you create a website that is professional and functional in no time at all.

However, before you can start building a website, there are some steps you’ll need to do first. If you don’t already have a business or a product, you’ll need to decide just what type of business you are interested in. This is often called finding a niche market or a smaller market within a larger one. In my opinion, this is the hardest part of building a website, deciding just what type of business you want to go into. If you are already in business or know what type of products, services or information you want to provide, building your site is the easy part.

What Are You Passionate About?

I recommend picking a topic or business that you are passionate about. You want to create a business and not just a website. Therefore create your internet business around something that makes you excited. This will give you the motivation and desire to keep it going while it is growing. When you are engaged in projects you love, it’s not like working at all. It’s more like fun.

Research Topics for Public Interest

All topics won’t make you money and some topics have heavy competition. You may need to select 2-3 topics and then do your due diligence to find out which one will be the most profitable. This is where research comes in. You will need to research your topic and popular keywords to see if there are enough people searching your subject.

Research Topic for Monetization

There maybe a large audience for your subject, but can you make any money off of it? Are there products, either tangible or digital that can be tied in with your topic? For example, if you are interested in “beach weddings” what types of products or services can you sale or provide? Perhaps you can create a list of the best hotels on the beach for a honeymoon. You would want to then find hotels that would give you a commission for each person you referred and who booked at their hotel. This is called affiliate marketing. You are selling someone else’s product or service. Or maybe you could create your own product. If you are a creative writer with an artistic flair you could create wedding invitations that reflect the ocean and nature. Or maybe you could write an Ebook on how to have the perfect beach wedding. This is just one example.

Finding, Creating, and Adding Content for Your Website

After you have selected your business topic, done your research and found a money-making topic, you need to fill your website with valuable content. You have several options. You can write these articles yourself, use other people’s articles for free, or pay a small fee to have someone write articles for you. If you enjoy writing and are knowledgeable about your topic, it’s not difficult to create your own content. There are also many article directories like Ezine Articles, Go Articles, and Article Base that have articles you can use for free as long as you include the author’s byline. Lastly, you can hire someone through services like Elance and Guru to write articles for you, sometimes for as little as $10.00 per story.

Selecting a Domain Name

Once you have planned your site and brainstormed your content it is time to register a domain name. Again, for the best search engine results, select a domain name that is a popular keyword and if possible get a domain that ends in.com. If “beach weddings” is your topic, then a domain like beachweddings.com would be ideal provided you did your homework and this is a popular search engine keyword with low competition. I recommend Go Daddy for registering your domain name. They have some of the best prices on the internet and are very popular with excellent customer service.

Putting It All Together

Once you have completed the following tasks, it’s time to build your website. There is no reason that you cannot build a website quickly and easily on your own with all the web-building products on the market. The web builder and hosting company I recommend most is Webs.com. I have built many websites for people using this company because it’s fast, easy, and very cost effective in terms of their hosting plan. Also, you can build a shopping cart and add a variety of other features to your site.

Blogs can be a very marketable and very profitable tool if used correctly. Profiting from blogs is just a matter of grabbing the attention of an audience and not doing any actual salesmen selling. In this article you will learn the 13 most essential steps to successful blogging.
1) Where to start?
You should begin your blog with a free blog hosting service such as Journal Home. I don’t say that because I’m the owner, but a free blog host is very rewarding for a new blog.  Starting with a free blog hosting service allows you to begin blogging instantly without having any advance knowledge of scripts, hosting, or programming. It allows you to build an audience and buzz for your blog.  It allows you to focus on your content and not the internal maintenance of the blog. The best benefit of starting with a free service, is in the case your blog doesn’t become successful you do not lose any money or are you left holding the bill. The great thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, your latest entry is displayed first. When your blog traffic grows greatly and you are ready to upgrade to your own domain then you can simply make your last blog entry the announcement of your “move”.  Simply add a last entry stating that your blog has “moved” and type the new blog URL address. Which directs visitors to your new blog site, keeping your following, without a major inconvenience to anyone. Upgrade as you need to…but only when you need to!
2) Niche
A niche is a targeted product, service, or topic. You should first decide on a product, service, or topic which interest you. Choose an area which you can enthusiastically write about on a daily basis. You can use keyword research services like Google Zeitgeist or Yahoo! Buzz Index to find popular searched topics. It does NOT matter if your topic is popular as long as there is a audience for your topic and the topic is precisely focused then your blog should be successful. Anything can be considered a niche as long as it has a target audience no matter how large or how small the audience is. A blog about your cat can be a niche or a blog about the species of the cat family can be a larger niche market, if there are people who are interested in hearing about your cat or the species of the cat family, then you have a niche…you can even choose to build your audience for a market which an audience does not exist, but first you must build your blog.
3) Update Daily (nothing less)
This step is a must and not a suggestion. Updating your blog daily not only keeps your blog more interesting to readers, but it also gives your blog fresh content on a day to day making it more appealing to search engines. Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here and there is understandable to most, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful. To keep your blog traffic and retain your visitors interest it is a must to update your blog daily with multiple entries. Though, I am seeing a growing trend of successful blogs that are not being updated daily, but they are successful and have a stable audience who continue to visit their blog daily.  Regardless, these blogs are still updated weekly with multiple entries.  Until you have a steady audience you should try to update your blog everyday with at least 3 or more daily entries. The best way to accomplish this is to set aside 1-2 hours a day for tending to your blog and adding new entries. It may even be wise to schedule a set time which you dedicate to your blog each day. Give yourself work hours and treat your blog as a job, what happens if you don’t come to work for days or weeks…you lose money or worse you get fired! Same applies here…if you don’t update your blog for days or weeks you’ll lose visitors.
4) Traffic
It’s no secret. You must have traffic to profit from blogs. There are numerous ways to build traffic. Paid advertising, free advertising, viral marketing, search engine marketing, RSS/XML feeds, and word-of-mouth. You should always use your blog URL address in the signature of your email, forum discussions, message boards, or any other communication media. You should submit your blog URL address to search engines and blog directories. You should submit your RSS/XML URL feed to blog ping services like Technorati, Ping-O-Matic, and Blogdigger. You should confidently share your blog with family, friends, co-workers, associates, and business professionals when it relates. Many blogs can be considered as a collection of articles, for this purpose you should submit your blog entries (those that are valuable and lengthy articles) to content syndicators like GoArticles.com or <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.zapcontent.com”>ZapContent.com</a>. Once submitted your articles can be picked up and published by others. The trick is to make sure you include your Blog URL address in the “About the Author” passage. What this does is create link popularity and backlinks for your blog, when someone picks up your article from the syndication then publish the article on their website the “About the Author” passage is included with each publication and the link you included is followed, crawled, and indexed by search engines. Imagine if your article is popular enough or controversial enough to produce 10,000 publications across the web. The search engines is bound to find your blog in no time with that many publications and credit you a authority on the topic, in return increasing your rank on search engines. The small effort of writing a well written article is rewarding. You should try to write at least 1 full length article every week for syndication and submit your article to at least 10 article syndicators.
5) Track Your Blog
How do you know if your blog has traffic? Just because no one is leaving comments doesn’t mean your blog isn’t growing. Many visitors do not leave comments but they are returning visitors. I know it sounds crazy but with blogs people are more interested in what “you” have to say! Many visitors do not comment their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time. Some do not comment at all, but are active daily visitors.
Tracking your blog does not have to be overly sophisticated usually a simple free page counter like StatCounter.com or Active Meter will do the trick. Install (copy/paste) the code into the html of your blog template and start tracking your visitors. Its better to use a service which gives you advanced traffic analysis, such as keyword tracking information, referral information, and search engine information. Visitors, returning visitors, and unique visitors should be standard for any page counter service you choose.
6) Listen to Your Audience
When using the proper page counter you should begin to see how others are finding your blog and if through search engines then which keywords are being used to find your blog. If constantly your blog is being found by 1 or more keywords then focus your blog around those keywords to make it even more powerful. When writing entry titles and entries use the keywords as often as possible while keeping the blog legible and interesting.
7) Multiple blogs
Use multiple blogging accounts (free) to attract more people. This means you should have a blog with JournalHome.com and others. The more blog accounts the better (be sure to read and adhere to the Terms of Service for each site). You can copy/paste from 1 blog to all others. Having different blog accounts is like having a publication in different newspapers. This enables you to attract more visitors and this also increases the chance that 1 of your blogs will be in the search engine results for your focused keywords.
8) Short & Concise
Aside from the lengthy article a week for syndication and publication your blog entries should be short & concise (if you can help it). Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and you have no choice but to blog lengthy entries, but try to avoid this as much as possible. You do not want your blog entries to become hours of reading. Visitors like to easily find information and skim through your entries. It is good to be detailed and provide useful information, but do not include useless information or run away sentences that veer away from your topic.  Stay keyword-focused.
9) Digital Art
Try to include non-advertising graphics, pictures, photos, and art in your blog entries. Not too much. Once a week is fine. Graphics can sometimes bring your blog to life. Of course, the content of the blog is the most important aspect and you do not want to overshadow your content with graphics, but displaying graphics can add a bit of spice to the blog. Be choosy about your graphics and make sure they fit your entry topic. You should add content with the graphic, at least a caption. Original graphics, photos, pictures, and art is recommended.
10) Keep it Personal
A blog is most successful when it is kept personal. Try to include personal experiences which relates to the topic of your blog entry. Stay away from the business style of writing. Write with a more personal style and use first-person narratives. Do not write any of your entries as sales letters, instead share product reviews and personal endeavors.
11) Interact With Your Visitors
You now have the traffic you deserve. You should begin interacting with your visitors. Create a regular theme such as: “Monday Money Tip” or “Picture of the Week” which entices your readers to look forward to each week.
Give your readers advance notice about a product, service, or topic which you are going to review and then talk about later. If the President was scheduled to give a speech then in your blog you should state that you “will discuss the speech and give your opinion after the speech airs. Comments will be appreciated”.
Try your best to find exclusive information that not many have. Do not disclose any confidential or secret information which is deemed illegal or can potentially get you into trouble, but try to get the scoop before everyone else does. Such as: If your blog was about Paris Hilton (the socialite) and you had a blog entry about “Paris Hilton Getting Married” then it would be interesting to your readers if you had a actual picture of Paris Hilton engagement ring. Give your best effort to dig and search the internet for exclusive information and you will possibly come up with something useful. Your readers will appreciate this and they show their appreciation through word-of-mouth referrals. Imagine how many readers will tell their friends, family, and others about information they only can find at your blog.
12) Make Money
Once your blog has gained some real momentum and your blog traffic is increasing then it is time to start thinking about turning your traffic into profit. You should use contextual advertising, like Google Adsense or Chitika. Contextual advertising is usually text links which use the content of your blog to publish targeted ads on your blog. The payout is usually based on a pay-per-click model, meaning for ever click an ad receives you are paid a small percentage of the profits. In addition to contextual advertising it is good to also use graphical advertising such as: BlogAds.com, Amazon.com, MammaMedia, or General Sponsored Advertising.
13) You’re a Professional
You’re a professional now! What are you still doing with that free blog hosting service? It is time to upgrade to a domain hosted solution. You need to get a web host and choose a domain name for your blog then check its availability. Select the blogging software you wish to use, such as: Squarespace.com, WordPress.org, MovableType.org, TypePad, etc. When you have your new blog domain setup and ready for traffic then it is time for you to announce your move on all your previous blog accounts. Your last entry to the blog should be a “move” announcement. The title should be “Moved” and the blog entry should state something like “I have a new home for my blog, please bookmark and follow the link: http://www.YourNewBlogDomainName.com”. This way all returning visitors and new readers should not have any problem finding your new blog domain.  Plus, search engines can easily index and crawl your new blog, since your old blog should already be popular with the search engines.
At the level of a professional blogger you may want to team up with 1 or more other bloggers. This will create a more interesting and more powerful blog. The old saying “two heads is better than one”, more authors mean more advertising and exposure because each author will have a vested interest in the blog. The idea of a team blog is to make it profitable and rewarding for all authors, while continuing to target the blog topic and keeping the blog interesting for visitors.

Following these blogging techniques should make your blogging experience much more rewarding. There is no guarantee that your blog will become popular or a household name, but the effort should at least put you one step closer. Making money online is not an overnight experience like many may think, but making money online is definitely a foreseeable possibility. As well, growing popularity on the web is not an overnight experience, but through time, dedication, and persistence you will be rewarded with all the royalties of blogging.

It is now time to work on link popularity!

Why bother with link popularity? Link popularity is important because every major search engine considers them as a part of their ranking algorithms. You must build links if you want to rank well with the competitive keywords.

If your page includes all the important criteria and scores well with Page Primer, it’s time to focus on your links. You need good inbound links to move your page up the ranking ladder and get new entry points to your site, but how do you get those inbound links in the first place?

Let’s make sure you understand what link popularity is. Link popularity is the measure of inbound links to your web site. Link analysis evaluates which sites are linking to you and the link text itself.

Fortunately for you, there are a lot of ways to improve your link quality and popularity. Here are some ideas to help you set up your own link popularity campaign:

1) Get your site in shape. You must first make sure your site is in shape. Your site should look professional, have good content and be easy to navigate. Validate your HTML code and check your links with a tool like HTML Toolbox. If there are broken pages or links in your site, it is not likely you will get linkbacks.

Directories have gone on record saying they may exclude sites with broken links and page errors. Directories want only professional looking sites in their databases, so proof your site before you start promoting it.

2) Make time for link building. You can’t grow your link popularity overnight. Set aside time every week to work on link building. If you force yourself to spend a couple hours a week on link building, it will become part of your routine. If you don’t make it a priority, it won’t get done.
It will take time for you to notice results, but, over time, those one or two new links start adding up until they are hundreds or even thousands of links.

3) Set realistic goals for yourself. Don’t expect to see instant results. Link building is taxing, frustrating and time-consuming. Convincing another web site to link to you can be very difficult. If you get one good quality link a month, you’re doing good.

Patience is the key to link building. It is important to keep track of who you have asked, since it could be embarrassing to ask a site for a link if they’ve already given you one.

If someone declines, wait and ask again later. Their company may have changed their focus, or there may be someone else reviewing the links. A “no” today doesn’t necessarily mean “never”.

4) Educate your employees about link building. If you’re link building in-house, educate your company’s internal management about the benefits of link building.

Link popularity is unique to the search engine industry. Sit down with your management and explain the concept behind link building. Don’t assume your management knows what it is, because most won’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

Explain link building by describing the relationship of link building and increased revenue, this will usually get management’s attention. You will need management’s support to provide the time and money you need to get into search engines or directories, so their understanding is important.

5) Quality above quantity. Be selective. Search engines use sophisticated rules when judging link importance, and the popularity of the site is also important. One link from CNet is worth far more than a link from a personal web site.

Stay away from link farms, which are sites that exist only to link to other websites. Search engines take a very dim view of link farms. Google has been known to ban sites found using these link farms.

Try to stick to sites that are in the same field as your site, but not competing. Links that are in your same field will carry more weight than a link from a quilting site if you are a site for automotive parts. This does not mean you should always refuse if the site isn’t in your field, just limit the amount of the non related sites that you accept. Links from within your own field are strong endorsements and will go a long way to increasing your link popularity.

6) Get to know the website you are requesting a link to. Establish yourself as a real human first, then when you ask for a link, they are less likely to refuse.

Broadcast emails are a bad idea, sure it is easier, but they are considered spam and will only make the company mad at you. Spam link requests waste everyone’s time and don’t work.

7) Give them your exact HTML link code. When you send them what you want in the link and suggest which page you want it on, it makes their job easier. This also makes sure the right words are used in the link and reduces the burden in setting up the link. Everybody is pressed for time, and, if you make it “drop-in simple”, you will be making it irresistible. The easier it is for them, the more successful you will be in convincing them to use your link.

8) Get listed on as many directories as you can. This is important if your site is new or you do not have any inbound links. Another reason this is important is that, without inbound links, your site is at a disadvantage with most search engine rankings.

The way to overcome this is to get a few quality links. The way to start is to get listed in as many directories as you can. There are many directories out there, and the more you can get into, the better.

Here are some directories to choose from: Open Directory, Yahoo, LookSmart and Zeal.com, just to name a few.

Most directories worth linking to require you to pay for a listing. Most of the time, it is worth the expense.

9) Be prepared to give something for a link. Try to have something to offer in return for a link. Create a page that allows you to have a place from which you can easily link to them.

You can offer to work a barter arrangement with them. If your site is popular or is within their market, they might consider advertisements in exchange.

10) Consider outsourcing your link popularity work. Link building is a time-consuming part of search engine optimization, so you may find it is not cost effective to do it in-house. This means you might want to hire someone else to do it for you.

Many top SEO firms have turned to outsourcing this function. Outsourcing could be an efficient way for you to get links for your site as long as you use a reputable link building firm.

If you decide to outsource, be sure the firm you hire follows good link building practices. Ask them how they plan to get the job done. Make sure they use a personalized approach, just like you would do if you were doing it yourself. You need to make sure that the method they use would not be considered spam.

If they refuse to discuss their methods with you, then you can assume they use impersonal methods such as widespread e-mail drops or link farms – this is considered spam. They may call it something else, but, if their process involves sending out large numbers of form emails, it’s still spam. If they do it the impersonal way, it will only set you back and injure your company’s professional reputation. Saving time at the expense of hurting your reputation isn’t worth it. Go look for a different company, or develop your links yourself.

Think of link building as an investment in your site.

The link building process needs to be one of your top priorities. Search engines have found link building to be resistant to manipulation, and they use it to measure the importance of a site. Since link building takes time, the sooner you start, the better.

Think of link building as a long-term investment in your site. The time you put in now to improve your linking today will insure a good search engine ranking in the future.
